Yeah, yeah, yeah. They told me stuff, and I knew they were right.
I mean obviously you grow older.
Obviously things change.
Obviously at some point I was going to have to face the empty nest syndrome.
I just didn't think it was going to be like so soon. Nobody said it would be the 2nd August this year FFS!
Tonight the Cherub has gone off to stay with a pal for a couple of days.
Tonight for the first time in 17 years, (count them!) I got home to an empty house.
Check it. No dogs, no kids, nobody.
Nobody!
I used to quite like the idea of having a place to myself. Things change.
Heh heh... I might have an empty nest, but I still got the photos....
Newsflash. For anyone worried about the ongoing situation at work. Penny has been selected for jury service. The ongoing joke at work is it could be worse. She could be sentencing the poor bugger.

Hurray! You can run around the house in your undies!
3 August 2011 at 00:35
lx - Indeedy! And probably a damn sight better for me than sitting around feeling sorry for myself...
3 August 2011 at 00:41
If I lived closer, I'd bring over the stuff to make some Cape Cods!
3 August 2011 at 02:29
Some days Mrs. Map & our three daughters go off shopping for hours, and the house is grand and quiet. And then it is too quiet. And then I'm ringing, "When ye comin' home?" :¬)

Its your place.
You can fill it with this and that - whatever this and that may be. The silence is - enjoy it or fear it ... maybe just give it a chance and listen may be a way to start. To get things sorted. But I'm just a drunk Franconian. BTW listening to silence is a hard job. It is rewarding. There are surprises.
Take care please.
3 August 2011 at 07:26
I've been on my own for some years (the kids left home 10 years ago, and my dog died 4 years ago). There are pros and cons.
3 August 2011 at 07:37
You will get to like it - honestly......and how much fun is looking over photos? I do it all the time........the cherub looks beautiful..and is that you in the chair?
Re Penny....I am going to send her a 'be nice' vibe through the ether..sounds like she needs it (or a big g+t)...
3 August 2011 at 07:56
I haven't had a totally empty house and frankly, I've decided I'm not going to. I don't mind the lack of human beings, but I can't be doing without the Cat.
I'll end up dancing with the plants and I know they already think I'm bonkers.
Many, many hugs for you.
3 August 2011 at 08:08
lx - But you sent the link! For which I will salute you as soon as I assemble sufficient supplies!
Mapstew - I'm limiting myself to two texts a day. Maximum.. Maximum
63mago - In the silence, though, I can still hear Ned settling down in the hall or "cleaning" the kitchen floor. It's disconcerting.
Dave - Some of those pros I hadn't even thought of till now. Cocktail drinking in my thermals being one of them apparently..(thanks lx)
Libby - It is indeed me in the chair. Under Jock Dog who was pathetic. I was looking for a photo that showed me with my hands full...
If I'd known then I'd have taken more photos.
3 August 2011 at 08:09
Roses - Good morning. I'm off to apologise to the geraniums.
We can have a drink together this evening...
3 August 2011 at 09:28
You're never alone in the blogosphere!

3 August 2011 at 13:02
There's always puppy webcams to look at....
3 August 2011 at 17:38
Indeed, you can now cast aside all your inhibitions and run around the house doing whatever you please. Enjoy!
3 August 2011 at 19:02
Switch off your webcam first though. Tee hee.
3 August 2011 at 21:31
Undies be buggered - run around in the nuddy! ps I'm good at vitriol! lol
3 August 2011 at 22:08
Scarlet - Indeedy. Especially if you threaten to start running around in your smalls...
Rog - Indeed. Or blogs featuring dogs ....
Nick - I have started small by retuning the radio..
Dave - I'll put a towel over the pc just in case...
Curry Queen - Except on a Sunday maybe. Just to keep standards up.

How lovely will it be when he is back with his Mum. Hell have such a lot to tell you. Meanwhile soil yourself. Oh God you know I silt coffee today. Can you guess which letter isnt working
DO NOT SOIL YOURSELF.
4 August 2011 at 08:34
Pat - Erm thanks, I won't soil myself..but, how shall I put this? It seems tht it's yourself that needs a pee?
4 August 2011 at 12:59
A? Hoe at's roblem gets fixed. I had a missing Q a few years ago, always bad news when you're busting for a
4 August 2011 at 14:05
Hey, enjoy the little bit of peace.
Statisics in the western world say that boys dont leave home til they are 30 or more----
Cherub might bring his patner to live with you---ha ha ha.
I just got my house back to myself after having a friend stay---I do like it this way--but the labrador is here
4 August 2011 at 17:07
I sing (badly) when I'm on my own. It's loud and fun and nobody is about to complain. Then they come back with tales and play other music that I can't sing...
4 August 2011 at 22:02
Holy shit, I love an empty house but you know...not when it's forced on you. :( At least the Cherub is probably having a good time. So you can do all sorts of fruity things while he's gone, like dropping water bombs on passers by and mooning out the window.
5 August 2011 at 09:12
Tim - Hello! Yes, Pat's problem really. All my consonants are in perfect working order,
Clyde - Yeah. I'm learning to be careful what I wish for!
Speccy - Nah I sing so badly I can't risk singing in the house in case someone's passing the window.
Would this be a bigger risk to my image than following lx's suggestion and running around half naked?
Yes.
Ms Veg - Alternatively I shall do Bonnie Tyler impersonations.. Am I the only one here who remembers the video to Total Eclipse of the Heart?
For singing badly ina welsh accent is another undeveloped talent.
(Heads off to raid You Tube archives)
5 August 2011 at 12:34
No, you're not the only one who remembers our Bonnie. Bad big hair, bad big shoulder pads, an 80-a-day gravelly voice and choir boys with shiny eyes. How could a person forget.
Damn good track though. Still got it on my 80s playlist.
5 August 2011 at 13:10
I love the quiet. As I like to say, "How can I miss ya if ya won't go away?"
:-)

5 August 2011 at 13:47
I like this version.
5 August 2011 at 19:45
Pearl - Now be careful what you wish for.
Seriously!
Roses - Yay! That's a song that needs the video though! All those young men in swimming trunks and floating veils. I always thought it was a video ahead of its time and out of character for our Bonnie...
And then lx sent me a link, which I can't open but which I'm guessing is this one. In which Bonnie becomes a dog rearing lesbian?
I had no idea Mr lx. No idea at all.
5 August 2011 at 20:14
Hey nice to meet you, came through Curry Queen. Yes for years I have been longing for empty nester but when it arrives I will be very sad indeed. I'll miss their socks!
5 August 2011 at 20:18
No, my link wasn't to that Welsh version.
Let's try this different one.
5 August 2011 at 21:57
Ms Weekend - Hi! I even miss his boots. His thumping great trainers and walking boots that I'm always tripping over.
Lx - We're going to a vote on this one. I hope the web links are working on my next post...
