It's Father's Day! As if you could miss the reminders to buy a present, send a card, take him out ... For those kept safely indoors, anyone in possession of a radio is going to have heard the dedications to dads on their special day.
Except the Cherub doesn't have a dad.
Actually he did have a dad - a pretty good one. One who played X Box for hours, always went in goal, and taught him to swim. He had a laid back dad who was good for camping trips, and crazy golf tournaments and days at the beach.
So it's wrong to say he doesn't have a dad.
He doesn't have a living dad.
But it's a Big Difference - and the card companies and supermarkets are missing a trick here. There is a surprising lack of Dead Dad cards. This might possibly be because you cant send dead people presents.
Or cards....
But we still need to commemorate his dad somehow.
Tonight, therefore, we will be continuing our recent tradition of Making Something Up as We Go Along. In this year's ad hoc ceremony, we will be be lighting a Chinese lantern and hoping the rain stays off long enough that it rises over Cheesetown.
Wish us luck.

Mum and I are having a bottle of bubbly to toast my missing dad. But my son still has his dad and that makes losing mine so much easier to cope with. Thinking of you and your son x

Oh honey.
Yes, it's true; today really does suck.
I have no doubt that you'll find the best way to honour Wayne, Cherub is lucky to have you.
In the meantime, lets raise our glasses for pulling it together (somehow), pulling it back from the brink (again) and making it happen.
Here's to you honey.
Well done.

Sounds like a plan to me; I hope the weather stayed fine for you both.
[Yet another reason to hate Hallmark "holidays!" Grr...]

A great idea. My Da died 25 years ago, still miss him.
I did a pub gig with my eldest daughter earlier this evening. Just the two of us entertaining the crowd and having a good time. A very nice Father's Day indeed! :¬)

Good idea to commemorate his missing dad. Lighting a Chinese lantern sounds fun. So what did he make of the day?

Good luck.

Hey lovely lady
There will be so many occasions that are memory occasions for you--
But you have to take them as a time to remember the good times--
We never want to forget the wonderful people in our life---no matter what pain the memories will bring.
At least Cherub has a dad to remember---and good memories of his dad.
He is even luckier that he has a wonderful mother to be with him

You've gone quiet. It worries me when you go quiet. Send me an e-mail, or I will worry some more and I've had enough worrying to last me a life-time.
