A big thank you to everyone posting condolences and supportive comments on my blog.
You know who y'all are.
It hasn't all been grim though. It's amazing what you can find when hunting through an elderly lady's cupboards. Looking through her papers for her birth certificate, I found a brown envelope...with photos... and a covering letter to explain the photos.
That's me in 1964! That was our house in Glasgow! Nobody ever told me that I'd had a modelling career for the South of Scotland Electricity Board.

Oh bless! Are you the baby or the toddler? This looks so like pics from my childhood....

My friend Lynn found that her mother was several years older than she'd ever let on, and that her parents didn't marry until she was three years old. Amazing indeed! Cute photo, fancy never having been told it existed!

What's interesting is the furniture, which presumably was the height of fashion in 1964. Unless of course it was pretty ancient and was actually the height of fashion in 1934....

You don't still have that cool drum by any chance?
13 May 2012 at 23:19
If the South Of Scotland Electricity Board revives that ad campaign, you'll get rich off the residual modelling fees!

What a treasure find!
I think we had the same 3-piece in 1964! :¬)

Which one is you?

I trust the photographer had been cleared. Or at least was out on parole.

This made me grin. Those were the good old days when business letters were typed on Remingtons and personally signed by whoever sent it.
We had that exact same furniture (and carpet) [and antimacassar] far away in South Africa, too ...

What a find! Antimacassars too!
14 May 2012 at 08:41
Blast from the past there Macy....which one is you?

Curry Queen - I'm the older toddler on the left. Reassuring that your house also had the latest in electric central heating!
Z - The photo might have been mentioned, but of course, shrugged off as my mother telling stories again.
Nick - Oh must have been all the latest furniture. The house was a new build. I think my grandpa bought the three piece as a wedding present.
Tim - That drum must have been for show. No way would my mother have had kids making that much noise indoors...
LX - Oh yes please! How do I suggest this to them?
Maps - It's great isn't it. Sometimes in old photos the most interesting bit is the background detail - the stuff everyone took for granted at the time.
Lace chair backs. Whod've thought.
Librarian - I'm the scared looking one on the right.
No idea what it was that could have been spooking me though.
Rog - Pfft! No need for that nonsense in those days.
On second thoughts... see my reply to Librarian above....

Rourusha - Yes I loved the letter - typed so any typos had to stay in (see first line)and with a definite reference number, because they would be filed by hand in real filing cabinets.
Trish - No idea where the antimacassars are now, but the crystal vase in the window is still in my mother's living room now.
Libby - I am a blast from the past. Might use that as a tag line.... I'm the scared looking kid on the right.

Aren't you a cutie?
I wonder how many other gems you'll find?
When the proceeds of your modelling career come through, will you come on down and see us?
14 May 2012 at 10:21
Roses - Indeedy. They don't call me dollface for nothing....
ahem
Is the blog meet still on for the end of this month? With the change in things I might be able to get down now.

Pure gold Macy and the great thing is they blow up.
14 May 2012 at 11:10
Pat - It cheered me up enormously. But when you say they blow up it is the photos you mean isn't it? Not the modern electric appliances??
14 May 2012 at 13:50
I suppose you are at the center in the room. Looks so inoccent.I hope you'll get back your cheerfulness sooner.
14 May 2012 at 18:30
Oh, I mistook that. Now I see after having read the comment and your recomment.
14 May 2012 at 23:58
Haricot - Yes, I'm the one on the right - looking very worried for some reason!
15 May 2012 at 16:29
Oh, how wonderful to have found this...
Amazing, what you find...

Wow, that is a step back in time and both children are fabulous "models" - had you only known! (Love that view out the window and my friend had a sofa like that.)
