The Gym

Scene  4:05pm Outside The Gym
I've parked the car outside the gym, and now I'm doing that monologue thing again.  The monologue that runs something like;

I made it all the way out here so I may as well go in.

And yes it's DARK already and it's raining, but it was dark when I left the house and it'll be dark when I go to work tomorrow, so what's the dark got to do with it? And the car is only 10 yards from the front door.

I've still got legs.  I can walk ten yards.

And I know I'll feel better when I've done it. Ten minutes on the rowing machine, half an hour on the treadmill. Big deal.  Home by half five. No stairmaster, I won't do the stairmaster. Just a wee row, and a wee jog, and home smug.  Smug is good. If I do all this, I can do smug.

And because I haven't been in a fortnight it's all the more reason to go now.
And because I feel like a barrage balloon it's all the more reason to go now.
And because it's back to work tomorrow, it's all the more reason to go now.
And because there is still half a box of Green and Black's and an unopened box of florentines waiting at home alongside a bottle of Bailey's and a big bag of Tyrell's, it's all the more reason to go to the gym.

4:15 I know... I know.. I know... I'm on my way in.  I'm going to the gym.  Enough already.

4.16  WHAT KIND OF GYM CLOSES EARLY ON JANUARY 2ND?

    Sorted.

  7. My gym is open 365 days a year, until 9.00 pm on working days and until 6.00 pm on Sundays and holidays - so, "I don't have time to go" is no excuse for me. And yet, very much unlike me, I have not been there in about 3 or 4 weeks! Yes, I've had a cold; yes, I've been busy with the new job; yes, we've had relatives over for most of Christmas, but still - I don't actually know why I have not been for so long.
An acute case of inertia, probably.

  8. Libby - Trust me. Best you remain free of Gym Guilt

AuntieGwen - I've been considering the cheaper running outside option myself. I'll take your advice and not go there...

Rog - What? And have to avoid one of the rooms in my own house???

Pat - The cheap answer is I'm a bird. But of course the problem is that I'm NOT.

Librarian - Habits. Habit's the problem, once I get in the habit of going to the gym, I'll find it easier. Right now I'm in the habit of not going....

  14. Jenny - Do you think gyms close early over the holidays as a sort of treat for us?

  15. Gym? Really? Treadmill? Really? Macy how big is your garden? Can't you jog round that a few times? Or run up your own stairs or *post your car keys to yourself (2nd class) and walk to work until they return and the repeat from*
No, no thank me later when you're counting the money I've saved you.

  19. Speccy - I believe that's called the field at the back of the house.

Allotment Queen- Hi! Yes, not sure if it was the Buddhist Centre or a couple of weeks off work that made the difference...

  20. They closed early because all those other 23 potential customers were sitting outside in their cars finding reasons why they couldn't go in....

  21. It's way too hot to go for a walk. It's way too cold to go for a walk. There's too much smoke to go for a walk. I'm too tired. Too hungry. Too sore. Too tiiiiiiiiiired... I hear ya sister.

  22. Hmm, tis the advantage / disadvantage of Aussie weather and a beach---it's never really that cold and there are no hours of business. Ah well, the dog loves it
